Lok Sabha Hosts Special Session on India’s First ISS Astronaut Shukla (Social media)
National News:Indian astronaut Shubhamshu Shukla returned to India early Sunday morning after completing his mission on the International Space Station (ISS). A large crowd gathered at Delhi Airport waving the national flag and cheering to welcome him back. The celebration included traditional drums and music.
Central Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan were there to welcome Shukla, along with his backup astronaut Prashant Balakrishnan Nair. His wife, Kamna, and son, Kiash, were also present to greet him.
Shukla responded to a welcome message from Jitendra Singh on social media, writing, “It feels really good to be back home.” He is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and later travel to his hometown, Lucknow. He may also return to the capital to participate in the National Space Day celebrations on 22-23 August.
In recognition of Shukla’s accomplishment, the Lok Sabha will conduct a special discussion titled
“India’s First Astronaut on the International Space Station: Role of India’s Space Program in Building a Developed Nation by 2047.”
Alongside this discussion, two important bills will be introduced:
Shukla was part of the Axiom-4 private space mission, which launched from Florida on 25 June and reached the ISS on 26 June. He returned safely on 15 July.
During the 18-day mission, Shukla worked with astronauts Peggy Whitson (USA), Slawoj Uznanski-Wisniewski (Poland), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary) to carry out more than 60 scientific experiments and organize 20 outreach sessions, showcasing India’s expanding contributions to space research.
